Girls learn very early that being mature is something to be proud of. It means being responsible, sensible, easy to trust. While boys are often allowed to remain boys, girls are encouraged to become women long before they are one. Growing up becomes something to perform well.

But the same idea has another use. “Mature for her age” is also a sentence used to make a girl seem older when someone needs her to be. It can turn childhood into something negotiable, particularly when sexuality enters the picture. What sounds like praise becomes a convenient excuse for adults to place intentions, responsibilities and desires onto someone who is still a child.

The video sits inside that contradiction, using humour because the phrase itself is almost absurd when heard plainly. It also looks at how this pressure continues online, where girls learn early how they are expected to present themselves and how quickly being seen as grown up can become being seen sexually. The expectation is contradictory from the beginning: grow up quickly, behave responsibly, know better, but carry the consequences when somebody else decides that your supposed maturity made their behaviour acceptable.
